QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Current Washington State ESA certificate or ability to acquire one.
  • Washington Department of Health License required.
  • Experience and training related to the job requirements.
  • Bilingual/Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA is desirable.
  • Successful working experience with communicatively disabled students.
  • Demonstrated organization and management skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people in a wide range of settings.
  • Knowledge of augmentative communications systems and devices.
  • Good communication skills with staff and parents.
  • Commitment to continued learning and personal and professional growth.
  • Ability to function cooperatively and productively as a team member with demonstrated skill in communication problem solving and collaborative decision-making.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate communication problems including receptive-expressive language, articulation, voice, fluency neuromuscular and non-vocal.
  • Document evaluation and relate the impact on the educational performance of students.
  • Recommend, establish, provide and monitor a course of intervention specific to the student’s disorder.
  • Prepare/conduct comprehensive speech/language services in areas of comprehension, morphology, fluency, semantics, pragmatics, voice syntax, articulation, etc.
  • Maintain record-keeping and clerical system for IEP preparation and student progress.
  • Provide information and consultative services relative to the management of the communication disorders to the student, the multidisciplinary team, educational staff, the family and related medical and community agencies.
  • Work in a team approach with other educational team members.
  • Provide in-service training to staff.
  • Make referrals when appropriate.
  • Complete audiological screenings as necessary.
  • Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, parents and district staff.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
